IT Jobs for Freshers from Shivamogga: Roles, Skills and How to Get Hired in 2026
Every year, colleges across Shivamogga produce engineering, BCA, BSc and MCA graduates who want a career in software. Some get campus placements. Many don't, and then face the hardest part: finding a first job on their own.
Here's a practical guide.
Fresher IT roles worth targeting
| Role | What you do | Key skills |
|---|---|---|
| Software / full stack developer | Build web and mobile applications | JavaScript, React, Node.js, a database, Git |
| Frontend developer | Build the user interface | HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React |
| Backend developer | Build APIs, server logic and databases | Node.js / Java / Python, SQL or MongoDB |
| QA / test engineer | Test software, write automated tests | Testing basics, Selenium or Playwright, a programming language |
| Cloud / DevOps support | Deploy and maintain systems | Linux, networking, Docker, AWS basics |
| Technical support / IT support | Help users and fix technical problems | Troubleshooting, networking, communication |
Developer and DevOps roles usually pay more and grow faster, but need more preparation. Support and QA roles can be a stepping stone. See MERN vs DevOps if you're choosing a direction.
Where the jobs are
Most IT jobs are in Bangalore, Mysuru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai. That's the reality. But:
- Remote and hybrid roles exist, especially at startups and smaller product companies
- Freelance and contract work for local businesses and agencies can give you real experience
- Some companies hire freshers remotely after a trial project or internship
Many people start in Bangalore and later move to remote work, closer to home. Others start remote from day one. Either way, you can prepare entirely from Shivamogga.
What gets a fresher shortlisted
Recruiters see hundreds of resumes saying "Proficient in Java, Python, React". What stands out:
- Two or three deployed projects with live links and GitHub code. Read how to build portfolio projects that get you hired.
- A one-page ATS-friendly resume: simple layout, skills that match the job description, projects with links and results.
- An active LinkedIn profile: headline, photo, projects, and posts about what you're learning.
- A clean GitHub with readable READMEs.
- Internships or freelance work, even small ones.
A 60-day job search plan
Weeks 1–2: get your materials ready. Polish your resume, LinkedIn and GitHub. Deploy your best projects if they aren't live yet.
Weeks 3–8: apply consistently.
- Apply to 10–15 relevant jobs a day on LinkedIn, Naukri, Indeed, Wellfound (for startups) and company career pages
- Ask seniors and alumni from your college for referrals. Referrals often get far better responses than cold applications
- Message recruiters and engineers with a short note and your project link
- Keep a spreadsheet of applications and follow-ups
Throughout: practise interviews.
- Problem-solving: arrays, strings, basic data structures, on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank
- Your projects: explain the architecture, why you made each choice and what you'd improve
- Fundamentals: how the web works, HTTP, databases, Git
- Mock interviews with a friend or mentor
Beware of job scams
Never pay for a job offer, "registration fee" or "training before joining" from a company you can't verify. Real companies don't charge freshers to hire them.
