Meta Is Turning On 'Product Browsing' in Your Ads on 28 October: What It Does and How to Opt Out
Updated 24 October 2026. Time-sensitive: the change takes effect on 28 October 2026.
If you run Facebook or Instagram ads, you may have seen a notice in Ads Manager: product browsing will be turned on for your existing ads on 28 October 2026 unless you opt out.
It sounds minor. It isn't, especially for businesses that depend on their own landing pages and tracking.
What product browsing is
Normally, when someone taps your ad, they go to your website (or WhatsApp, or a lead form). With product browsing on, Meta can instead show some people an in-app page on Facebook or Instagram with product information and personalised suggestions, to help them "learn more about your products quickly".
The feature already existed as an Advantage+ creative option. What's changing is the default: it will be switched on for existing ads unless you act.
Why Meta is doing it
Keeping people inside the app reduces load times and drop-off. Meta reports a 3% conversion improvement from tests across about 117,700 advertisers, mostly in e-commerce, consumer goods and retail. Critics point out that Meta hasn't defined the metric or method behind that number, so it's hard to know whether it applies to your business.
Who should be careful
| Business type | Risk if product browsing is on | Suggested action |
|---|---|---|
| E-commerce / D2C with a product catalogue | Low to medium: may help mobile shoppers | Keep on for some ads, compare results |
| Lead generation (coaching, real estate, interiors, clinics) | Medium to high: visitors may never reach your landing page or form | Review and likely turn off |
| Service businesses sending ads to WhatsApp | Depends on ad setup | Check each ad's destination |
| Businesses relying on website tracking and retargeting | High: fewer site visits means less Pixel data | Turn off or test carefully |
| Agencies managing many accounts | Workload: the notice may not show which account it refers to | Audit every account before 28 Oct |
If you've invested in a high-converting landing page and conversion tracking, an in-app page you don't control can undermine both.
How to opt out
Option 1: Before 28 October. Use the Opt out button in the Ads Manager notice. It's not fully clear whether this covers one ad account or several, so check each account you manage.
Option 2: Per ad, any time. Open the ad → Advantage+ Creative settings and the Destination section → turn product browsing off. This works for individual ads, so for many ads, use bulk editing where possible.
After the date, check a sample of ads to confirm the setting is what you expect. New ads may also default to on; review the setting every time you create one.
A smarter approach: test it
Rather than switching it off everywhere, run a simple test if you sell products:
- Duplicate one well-performing ad set
- Turn product browsing on in one and off in the other
- Run both with the same budget for 1–2 weeks
- Compare purchases or qualified leads and cost per result, not clicks
- Keep the winner
For lead generation, measure leads that actually pick up and convert. See our Meta lead ads guide.
The bigger trend: Meta wants more control
This is one of several October 2026 changes in which Meta's automation takes on more decisions: AI agents in Ads Manager, automatic video from images, lifecycle targeting. We cover them in Meta's October 2026 AI ad updates.
Automation often helps. But defaults are set for Meta's average advertiser, not your business. The habit worth building: read every Ads Manager notice, and test before accepting a new default.
Your checklist before 28 October
- Check every ad account for the product browsing notice
- Decide on, or off, or test for each campaign type
- Opt out where needed, or switch the setting per ad
- Note the date in your reporting so you can explain any change in results
- Re-check a sample of ads after 28 October
