Has My Web Host Patched PHP2Shell? Status for Hostinger, GoDaddy, cPanel, CloudLinux and Others
Updated 24 October 2026. Host status changes quickly; always check your host's own status page or support team before relying on this.
When PHP released emergency fixes for PHP2Shell on 21 October 2026 (what it is), the question for most small businesses wasn't "how do I patch PHP?" but "has my host done it?"
Here's what the major hosts used by Indian businesses have said, and how to check your own site.
Who is responsible for patching?
| Hosting type | Who updates PHP | Your job |
|---|---|---|
| Shared hosting (cPanel, hPanel) | The host | Confirm, check version, upgrade from EOL PHP |
| Managed WordPress hosting | The host | Confirm and check for compromise |
| Cloud hosting with a managed panel | Usually the host | Confirm with support |
| VPS / dedicated server | You | Patch PHP, restart workers (guide) |
| Containers / PaaS | You (rebuild) or the platform | Rebuild images (guide) |
What major hosts have announced
Hostinger (very popular with Indian small businesses)
- 21 Oct: blocked known exploit attempts with firewall rules and disabled
session.upload_progresson LiteSpeed, PHP Selector, cPanel PHP-FPM and phpMyAdmin - 22 Oct (06:44 UTC): finished rolling out patched PHP across the platform and emailed customers
- 23 Oct: said non-VPS plans were already protected against the follow-up CVE-2026-115560
- VPS customers must update PHP themselves
- Customers can confirm by checking that the PHP build date is 21 October 2026 or later
- Reported no increase in malware or unusual activity on managed hosting
GoDaddy
- Patched PHP on Managed Hosting for WordPress first
- Said Web Hosting and Windows Hosting were waiting on vendor packages; one report quotes GoDaddy saying Web Hosting was patched on 22 October
- VPS customers must update PHP themselves
SiteGround
- Moved early with protections ahead of the release and says the fixes are applied across all its servers
InMotion Hosting
- Disabled the PHP setting the known exploit uses across managed servers ahead of the patch; advises customers to run PHP 8.2 or newer
cPanel (EasyApache 4), the software behind many Indian shared hosts
- Released fixed PHP packages, with backports for 7.4, 8.0 and 8.1. Hosts using cPanel still need to install the updates on their servers
CloudLinux (alt-php / PHP Selector)
- Says 7.4 and 8.0 are fixed on most platforms and 8.1 on some, with a status page for the rest
- One report warned that security metadata wasn't published at first, so
yum --securityupdates might not pick these packages up. Server admins should update the packages explicitly
Smaller Indian resellers and local hosting companies often run cPanel or CloudLinux, so they depend on applying these vendor updates. Ask them directly.
How to confirm your own site
- Check your PHP version and build date (how). A build date on or after 21 October 2026 is a good sign on many hosts
- Look for your host's announcement: email, blog, status page or knowledge base
- Message support with this:
"Is PHP on my account patched for CVE-2026-109618, CVE-2026-109619 (PHP2Shell) and the CVE-2026-115560 mitigation? Which PHP version and build is my site using, and is my plan managed or self-managed?"
- If you're on PHP 8.1 or older, ask whether a patched build is installed, and plan an upgrade to PHP 8.3 or 8.4
Red flags in a host's answer
- "PHP2Shell doesn't affect us": every PHP web server is affected unless patched
- "Update your WordPress plugins": that doesn't fix a PHP engine bug
- No answer after 48 hours
- "We're still on PHP 7.x and can't upgrade"
If you get these, it may be time to move hosts. Moving a small business site usually takes a day with proper planning.
What to look for in a host after PHP2Shell
- Fast, public security communication (status pages, emails)
- Supported PHP versions available (8.3, 8.4, 8.5), and old ones clearly marked end of life
- Automatic daily backups with easy restore
- WAF and malware scanning included
- Staging environments to test upgrades
- Data centres in India or nearby for speed
