How Much Does a Website Cost for a Startup in Bangalore? (2026 Guide)

If you've asked three people in Bangalore what a website costs, you've probably heard three wildly different answers, from "₹5,000 on a builder" to "₹5 lakh from an agency". All of them can be right. The price of a website depends far more on what the website has to do than on the number of pages.

This guide breaks down realistic 2026 price ranges, what actually drives the cost, and how to compare quotes as a founder.

Quick answer: typical website price ranges in India (2026)

Published 2026 pricing guides broadly agree on these bands:

Type of websiteTypical rangeGood for
DIY website builder / managed WordPress₹2,000–₹6,000 per year in hosting and plansTesting an idea, personal brands
Basic 1–5 page site₹5,000–₹50,000Simple service businesses, landing pages
Small business site (5–15 pages, CMS)₹10,000–₹80,000 from freelancers; ₹50,000–₹2,00,000 with a full CMS buildMost startups and local businesses
E-commerce store (agency-built)₹1,50,000–₹4,00,000+D2C brands, product catalogues
Custom web application₹2,00,000–₹15,00,000+SaaS, marketplaces, portals

Ranges compiled from Hostinger's 2026 India website cost guide and Fuzen's 2026 guide. Bangalore agency rates usually sit at the upper end of each band.

The gap between the low and high end of each band isn't padding. It reflects real differences in strategy, design, copywriting, SEO and tracking.

What actually drives the cost of a website

1. Features, not pages

A 10-page brochure site can cost less than a 3-page site with bookings, payments and a customer login. Every feature that stores data or takes money (booking calendars, Razorpay or UPI checkout, member areas, dashboards) moves you from "website" pricing toward "web application" pricing.

2. Who writes the content

Many quotes assume you'll supply the text and photos. If you need copywriting, product photography or a brand identity, budget for it separately, or choose a team that includes it.

3. Custom design vs templates

A good template, customised well, is perfectly fine for most launches. Fully custom design makes sense when your brand is the product, as with D2C, premium services or consumer apps competing on polish.

4. SEO and tracking setup

This is where cheap websites quietly fail. A site built without on-page SEO, schema markup, Google Search Console, GA4 and ad conversion tracking might look finished, but it can't be found on Google or measured when you run ads. (We cover this in our website development service.)

5. Speed and hosting

Bangalore customers browse on their phones, often on patchy 4G in traffic. A slow site loses visitors and makes Google and Meta ads more expensive, because landing-page experience affects ad quality. Lean builds and good hosting cost a little more and pay for themselves.

Freelancer vs agency vs DIY: an honest comparison

DIY builderFreelancerAgency / studio

Your timeVery highMediumLow

Our honest take: if you're validating an idea with no budget, a builder is fine. Once you're spending money on ads or need to look credible to customers and investors, it's worth paying for someone who builds for enquiries, not just looks.

The hidden costs most website quotes don't mention

  • Domain renewal: a few hundred to a couple of thousand rupees a year.
  • Hosting: from about ₹2,000 a year for basic shared hosting to much more for e-commerce traffic.
  • Premium plugins, themes or apps: often billed annually in dollars.
  • Business email (Google Workspace or Zoho): charged per user per month.
  • Maintenance: security updates, backups and small edits. Retainers in India commonly run about ₹5,000–₹20,000 a month (Upgrowth).
  • Content updates: if every change needs a developer, the "cheap" site gets expensive fast.

Questions to ask before you accept any quote

  1. Who owns the domain, hosting and code? It should be your company. Always.
  2. Is on-page SEO included? Ask specifically about titles, meta descriptions, schema, a sitemap and Search Console submission.
  3. Will GA4, the Meta Pixel and Google Ads conversion tracking be installed and tested?
  4. Can I edit text and images myself?
  5. What happens after launch? Find out how long bug fixes are covered and what changes cost.
  6. How fast will it load on a phone? Ask to see the PageSpeed score of a recent site they've built.

If two quotes differ by 3×, the answers to these six questions usually explain why.

What we recommend for most Bangalore startups

For a typical pre-seed or newly launched business, the sweet spot is:

  • A focused 5–8 page website (home, services or product, about, a few key landing pages, contact) on a fast, editable platform
  • On-page SEO and a Google Business Profile from day one (see our local SEO guide for Bangalore startups)
  • Tracking installed before launch, so your first ad rupee is measurable
  • Room to add a blog, e-commerce or app features later without rebuilding

That gets you credible, findable and measurable without overspending before you've proven demand.
