How to Start a D2C Brand from Bangalore: Product, Store, Ads and the First 1,000 Orders
Bangalore is home to many of India's best-known D2C brands, along with the agencies, manufacturers, warehouses and creators that support them. That makes it a great place to start one, and a crowded place to compete.
Part 1: Shape the idea
Pick a niche small enough to win. "Skincare" is a market. "Skincare for men with oily skin in humid cities" is a niche. Strong D2C niches usually have:
- A specific customer with a specific frustration
- A reason to buy online instead of in a shop
- Repeat purchase potential: consumables beat one-time purchases
- A story you can tell in a 15-second Reel
Check the competition honestly. Search Amazon, Instagram and Google for your product. Read 1-star and 3-star reviews of competitors. Complaints about quality, sizing, taste or delivery are your positioning.
Validate with a small batch. Make 100–300 units, or take pre-orders with a landing page and a small ad budget. Real orders from strangers tell you more than any survey.
Part 2: Execution
Product and manufacturing. Decide whether you'll make in-house, use a contract manufacturer, or white-label. Get samples, test them on real customers, and lock down quality standards before you scale.
Compliance. Depending on your category, expect GST, a trademark search and filing, FSSAI for food and beverages, Legal Metrology labelling requirements for packaged goods, and category-specific rules for cosmetics or supplements. A CA and a compliance consultant are worth paying for here.
Packaging. It's your shop window, your shipping protection and your unboxing moment. Make sure it survives courier handling.
Your online store. Shopify is the fastest route for most brands; custom builds suit subscriptions or complex catalogues. Essentials:
- Mobile-first product pages with great photos, video and reviews
- UPI, cards and wallets through an Indian payment gateway, plus a COD strategy
- Shipping integration with tracking, and WhatsApp order updates
- Clear shipping, returns and refund policies
- Analytics, Meta Pixel and conversion tracking before you spend on ads
Logistics. Start with a courier aggregator for pickups and rates. Move to a warehouse or fulfilment partner once order volume justifies it.
Unit economics. For each order, add product cost, packaging, shipping, payment fees, returns and ad cost per order. If it doesn't work at small scale, it rarely fixes itself at large scale.
Part 3: Getting your first 1,000 orders
- Instagram and Reels: product in use, before and after, behind the scenes, founder story
- Creators: many small, relevant creators often outperform one big one. Gift products first
- Meta ads: the main growth engine for most D2C brands. Test several creatives, not several audiences
- Google Shopping and search: capture people searching for your product category
- WhatsApp and email: repeat orders, restock reminders and launches
- Marketplaces: Amazon, Flipkart and quick-commerce for reach, once your own store is working

Your 30-day kickstart plan
- Week 1: brand name, trademark search, product samples finalised, compliance started
- Week 2: packaging, product photography and video, store build
- Week 3: store live with tracking, Instagram seeded with content, creators gifted
- Week 4: first Meta ad tests, pre-order or launch offer, measure cost per order
Where a launch partner fits
Most D2C founders are rightly obsessed with the product. The launch stack around it (store, tracking, social content system, first ad campaigns) is where weeks disappear and money leaks, especially when it's split across separate freelancers who don't talk to each other.
We set up that stack as one team: your store or landing page, tracking that actually reports purchases correctly, a social media framework, and a controlled first ad test, with a fixed, itemised quote. Ad accounts and the store stay in your name, and we start with what you need for launch rather than an expensive retainer.
