Search Console's Generative AI Report: How to See Your AI Overviews and AI Mode Impressions
Updated 24 October 2026. Availability varies by property; if you don't see the report yet, it may not have reached your account.
Ask any website owner how they appear in Google's AI Overviews and you'd usually get a shrug. The data simply wasn't available: AI impressions were mixed into the normal Performance report with no way to separate them.
In June 2026, Google introduced generative AI performance reports in Search Console. Here's what they show and how to use them.
What the report covers
According to Google's announcement and early coverage, the report gives dedicated views of your site's appearances in:
- AI Overviews (the AI summaries above normal results)
- AI Mode (Google's conversational search)
- Generative AI features in Discover
You can view the data by page, country, device and date, at hourly, daily, weekly or monthly granularity. The same data also remains part of the overall Performance report.
What it doesn't show (yet)
Early guides report that the AI-specific view is built around impressions. Click-through rate, average position and query-level breakdowns aren't provided in the same way as the standard Search results report. That limits what you can conclude: you'll know a page is being shown in AI answers, not exactly which questions triggered it.
Rollout: who has it?
Google said it was starting with a subset of sites. Some coverage described an initial rollout to UK sites, and a later guide claimed worldwide availability from late August 2026. We couldn't confirm that date in Google's own documentation, so check your property: if you see the report, use it; if not, the techniques below still work using the main report and GA4.
Google has also added controls that let site owners limit how their content appears in AI features. For almost every small business, staying visible is the better choice: AI answers increasingly shape which business people call.
How to read the report
1. Find your "AI-trusted" pages. Sort pages by AI impressions. These are pages Google already considers good sources for AI answers. Usually they're specific guides, pricing pages or clear service pages.
2. Compare with normal search. A page with strong AI impressions but weak clicks in the main report may be answering the question fully on Google. Add a reason to click: a calculator, a detailed price table, a booking option, photos, a downloadable checklist.
3. Look at countries and devices. For a Shivamogga or Bangalore business, India and mobile should dominate. If impressions mostly come from elsewhere, your content may be too generic.
4. Watch trends after changes. When you improve a page, check whether its AI impressions rise over the following weeks. Note Google's October 2026 links update, which may increase visible links in AI answers.
Turning AI impressions into enquiries
- Answer first, then detail. Pages that open with a direct answer are easier for AI to cite.
- Use tables and steps. Costs, timelines, comparisons, eligibility.
- Keep facts current. Prices, timings and policies that are out of date get your business described wrongly.
- Make the next step obvious. Call, WhatsApp and form buttons on every page that gets AI visibility.
- Track the visit. AI Mode and AI Overviews clicks usually arrive as Google organic traffic. AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini need separate tracking: see how to track AI traffic in GA4.
A monthly 20-minute routine
- Open the generative AI report (if available) and note the top 10 pages by AI impressions
- Compare them with clicks and enquiries for the same pages
- Pick one page to improve: clearer answer, newer data, stronger call to action
- Pick one important page that has no AI impressions and make it more specific
- Re-check next month

What this tells us about SEO in 2026
Being found on Google now has two layers: the classic blue links and the AI answers above them. The report confirms what we see in practice: the pages that appear in AI answers are the specific, well-structured, trustworthy ones. The fundamentals haven't changed; the reward for doing them well has grown.
Where we fit
We set up Search Console, GA4 and AI-referral tracking for every site we build, and use the AI report to decide which pages to improve each month. See SEO services and Generative Engine Optimisation for small businesses.
